The CIAA Announces Men’s and Women’s All-Conference Honors, Player and Defensive Player of the YearFebruary 17, 2004Hampton, VA… The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association is proud to celebrate its selections for the 2004 CIAA All-Conference Men’s and Women’s teams. Featured on the Men’s team is 2003-2004 Player of the Year, Desmond Peoples of Saint Augustine’s College. Peoples, a 6’7”, senior forward from Clinton, Maryland leads the conference in rebounding with 11.4 boards a game and is fifth in scoring at 20.2 points per contest for the 17-8 Falcons. The 2003-2004 Defensive Player of the Year, Anthony Greenup of Shaw University leads the conference in offensive rebounds and is second in defensive with a total 9.8 rpg. Greenup also boasts the second best average in the conference in blocked shots, 2.7 per game. Jessica Hawkins of Shaw University takes the crown as the 2003-2004 Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Hawkins, a versatile 5’7” senior guard from Raleigh, North Carolina, leads the CIAA in assists at 5.8 a game and steals at 4.6 per contest. She also averages 11.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and shoots 58.1 percent from the field for the 23-2 Lady Bears. The All-Conference Teams and Players of the Year will be formally honored at the Women’s and Men’s Tip-Off Banquets. Both banquets will be held at the Embassy Suites-RDU in Cary on Sunday, February 22 and February 24 at 6:30pm, respectively. 2004 Men's Basketball All-CIAA Team
