CIAA Women’s Basketball Players of the Week

Player of the Week
Joy Hairston-Shaw University, 6’1”, SR, Forward, Durham, NC
Hairston averaged 20 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist as the Lady Bears posted big wins over Augusta State and North Florida this week. In Shaw’s 106-58 win over Augusta State, Hairston knocked down four 3-pointers and finished the game with 22 points and 7 rebounds as the Lady Bears won in a rout.

Rookie of the Week
Celeste Trahan-Elizabeth City State University, 6’2”, FR, Center, Stockton, CA

Trahan earns Rookie of the Week honors for the second week in a row by posting her third double-double of the season. Trahan scored 19 points and added 12 rebounds, 3 steals and a blocked shot as the Lady Vikings traveled to Pennsylvania and won the championship at the Rotary Pocono Tournament with a victory over West Liberty State on Sunday.

Coach of the Week
Jacques Curtis-Shaw University

Revenge was the theme this week as Coach Curtis and the Lady Bears whipped Augusta State 106-58 to avenge last year’s season ending loss to the Lady Jaguars in the NCAA Regionals. Shaw also posted an impressive 89-61 win over the Lady Ospreys of the University of North Florida, who knocked the Lady Bears out of the NCAA Tournament in 2003.
